The crisis is good for the libido..

Just before elections Mr. Chryssohoidis, Civil Protection Minister, decided to crack down on illegal immigration. At the same time, just before elections, Mr. Loverdos, Health Minister, made a statement that illegal immigration is a “health bomb ready to explode”, meaning that immigrants are carriers of rare and wonderful diseases that were extinct in Greece.

One week before elections a Russian prostitute was caught “practicing her trade” without papers. When she was found to be HIV positive the two Ministers and the media had a party for a whole day: their theories had been proved true. The next day their bubble blew – ten more prostitutes were arrested and were all HIV positive and on top of that they were all Greek citizens!!

More than 3000 Greek ( I presume – no nationalities were mentioned in this context…) males phoned the first day to arrange a test for AIDS. The next day they reached 6000 with old age pensioners among them…..

The media went forward with their hot issue publishing the pictures of the prostitutes but not those of the “clients”.

The only consolation is that the crisis is good for the libido. Like the old slogan “Make love not war”….

Greek government formation – round three

After Mr. Antonis Samaras, leader of the right wing New Democracy Party failed to form a government Mr.Alexis Tsipras, leader of the  Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA) also returned  his explorative mandate to the State President.

Mr. Tsipras repeated his call to the Communist Party to co-operate for the formation of an anti-Memorandum government which was flatly denied. While his talks with Mr. Kouvelis seemed fruitful it was not possible to form a government because the coalition of left wing parties could not gather enough support votes.

Mr. Evangelos Venizelos, leader of PASOK (Panhellenic Socialist Movement), the great loser of the elections, has started his meetings with other leaders and seems to have found many points of agreement with Mr. Fotis Kouvelis of Democratic Left.

He is expected to meet with Mr. Samaras and Tsipras tomorrow.

The formation of a government between the two major parties and Democratic Left is a development that augurs new austerity measures, measures the Greek people have condemned with their vote.

One of the black points of these elections is that a large part of the electorate  will not be represented since many parties did not reach the 3% threshold. The Greens and the Popular Orthodox Rally reached 2,93 and 2.90% respectively!
