After their fruitless meeting with Greek infrastructure Minister Mr. Ragoussis the Athens taxi owners’union renewed their promise to gather outside the ministry in the center of the capital.
At the same time, true to its warnings, the Greek police attacked the taxi drivers who had blocked the Heraklion airport in Crete. The skirmishes were quite violent with tear gaz bombs and stone throwing.
The local taxi drivers unions in Corfu and Samos also blocked the airports there but there was no police interference while it was impossible to cross the Rio – Antirio bridge because the taxis had blocked it thus cutting off Western Peloponese from mainland Greece.
The government has stated that they will announce their proposals on August 20. The taxi owners associations have not replied to that but they prefer to take action without warning in order to avoid police intervention.
